Getting to MetLife Stadium from NYC and NJ: Train, Drive or Car Service

The NJ Transit train, driving and parking, ride apps after the final whistle, or a chauffeur who waits: the real trade-offs for getting to a Giants, Jets or concert night at MetLife Stadium.

MetLife Stadium sits in East Rutherford, New Jersey, about eight miles west of Midtown Manhattan, and on a game or concert night 80,000 people are trying to leave it at the same time. How you get there decides how your night ends. Here are the four ways from New York City and New Jersey, with the honest trade-offs.

Is there a train to MetLife Stadium?

Yes. NJ Transit runs trains from New York Penn Station to Secaucus Junction, where you change for the Meadowlands Rail Line that stops at the stadium. Service runs on event days only, starting a few hours before kickoff and continuing after the event. It is the cheapest option from Manhattan and avoids traffic, but the line after a game is a long one: expect to queue on the platform, and check the schedule, because the last train leaves and does not come back.

What about driving and parking?

Parking at MetLife is paid and event-priced, and for the biggest games and concerts it is sold in advance; on the day you may find lots full. The real cost is time: the lots empty onto a handful of roads, and an hour to leave the complex is normal. If you drive, arrive early, park near an exit and accept the slow roll out.

Can I take an Uber to MetLife Stadium?

To the stadium, yes, and before kickoff the price is ordinary. The problem is the ride home. When the event ends, tens of thousands of people open the same app at the same moment, prices climb to match, and drivers have to fight into a designated pickup area. Walking out to a car that is already waiting for you is the single biggest difference between a chauffeur and an app on a stadium night.

How does a car service work for a game or concert?

You book by the hour or as a round trip, and your chauffeur waits at the stadium during the event. When it ends you walk to the car and leave while the app crowd is still watching the price rise. From Manhattan the ride is 25 to 45 minutes each way outside event traffic. Hourly charters are $100 an hour for a Chevrolet Suburban and $125 for a Cadillac Escalade with a 3-hour minimum, plus 15% gratuity and tolls; a typical game night runs five to six hours. Event pricing and the booking form are on the events page.

Flying in for the game? We also run flat-priced airport transfers straight to the Meadowlands from Newark Airport, JFK and LaGuardia.

What is the best way from Times Square to MetLife Stadium?

For one or two people on a budget, the train from Penn Station (a short walk from Times Square). For a group of four to six, a Suburban by the hour usually costs less per person than four train fares plus the wait, and it takes you back to your door. For a group that wants to eat and drink before and after, the car is the only option that waits.
